Eddy Current Probes
Electromagnetic Probes and Coils Built for Accuracy

Inspect with greater reliability. Our extensive selection of standard electromagnetic probes and coils are designed for a variety of electromagnetic instruments and applications across refinery, petrochemical, and power utility environments.

With a range of options for frequency, shielded or unshielded, and probe size or configuration, access the right tools for any EM inspection. From absolute pencil probes, surface probes, encircling coils, rotary drives, and ID tubings, minimize defects with the right accessories to make every inspection faster, more accurate, and cost-effective.

The site makes it simple and easy to select eddy current probes and accessories used in non-destructive testing (NDT).

Whether you’re new to the field or an NDT expert, this easy-to-navigate site streamlines the process of choosing from the wide selection of standard eddy current probes that we offer.

We used to be GE Inspection Technologies, now we’re Waygate Technologies, a global leader in NDT solutions with more than 125 years of experience in ensuring quality, safety and productivity.

Eddy Current Product Line
Eddy Current Probes and Transducers

Eddy current testing is different from other non-destructive testing methods in one important respect: the equipment used, in particular, the probes, is specific to the inspection task. Eddy current testing is therefore inherently flexible. In order to get the best results, it is vitally important to choose the optimum equipment for each task.

MiniDrive 40A100-M: Rotating Eddy Current Probe Drive

The MiniDrive is a small, lightweight, rotating eddy current probe drive. It has been designed to allow fast and accurate inspection of fastener holes in confined spaces. The MiniDrive’ s lightweight design (only 150 g/5 oz.) minimizes operator fatigue when inspecting a large number of fastener holes. Operating at a range of speeds from 600 rpm to 3000 rpm, over a frequency range of 200 kHz to 3 MHz, the MiniDrive offers the flexibility needed to satisfy a wide range of inspection requirements.

About Eddy Current Testing
What is Eddy Current testing?
  • Eddy Current testing is the use of electromagnetic induction to detect and characterize surface and sub-surface flaws in conductive materials
  • Eddy current sensors sense displacement  and are formed when a changing magnetic field intersects a conductor
  • Probes sense the change and find out the distance between the probe and the test material
  • Electric current is induced into the test subject and the change in the current is noticed and determines a fault. There will be a corresponding change in the phase and amplitude of the signal that is measured.
  • Eddy Current  can measure metal thickness so erosion or metal thinning can be detected
  • Eddy current is one of six methods of NDT testing: eddy current, magnetic-particle, liquid penetrant, radiographic, ultrasonic, visual testing
Advantages of Eddy Current Testing
  • Faster scanning speed than ultrasonic testing
  • Minimal preparation for surfaces to be tested
  • EC can test through several millimeters of coating
  • Very sensitive - can detect very small cracks
  • Testing devices are portable with immediate results/feedback
  • The test equipment does not need to be in direct contact with the item being tested
  • Production is not interrupted due to fast and automated testing
  • Groups of sensors can be used to provide a larger area scan
Eddy Current Applications
  • Aerospace Industry
  • Petrochemical Industry
  • Material sorting- used to determine that the proper materials are being used for a job
  • Used to determine material characteristics/purity of the metal
  • Tube and wire testing
  • Weld testing
  • Coating thickness measurement
