Baker Hughes & Repsol signing
  • Collaboration includes a generative AI virtual assistant to boost production with real-time insights and predictive analytics
  • Repsol is in the early stages of deploying Leucipa Lift Optimizer to streamline plunger lift well operations and reduce monitoring time for engineers

HOUSTON and LONDON – June 10, 2025 — Baker Hughes, an energy technology company, and Repsol, a global multi-energy company, announced Tuesday an agreement to deploy new, next-generation digital capabilities through the Leucipa™ automated field production solution, including a generative AI-powered virtual assistant. The agreement was signed on May 23.

Baker Hughes’ generative AI-powered virtual assistant will enhance data accessibility and insight generation through a simple to use, conversational chat interface. By leveraging the natural language processing capabilities of generative AI, the Leucipa virtual assistant will streamline complex data interpretation, delivering real-time recommendations and predictive analytics to optimize production performance.

"Today’s engineers have access to vast quantities of data across every aspect of the oilfield, but managing such large volumes of information can be a challenge," said Amerino Gatti, executive vice president, Oilfield Services & Equipment, Baker Hughes. "Through our collaboration with Repsol, Leucipa is transforming the way operators engage with data, creating more intelligent, efficient and sustainable production. This agreement underscores our shared commitment to driving progress at scale across the energy sector.”

Baker Hughes and Repsol announced a memorandum of understanding to collaborate on next-generation capabilities for Leucipa in October 2024, and the two companies are working together to co-develop several new features.

Repsol is currently piloting the AI-powered Leucipa Lift Optimizer for plunger lift wells, aiming to streamline field optimization and significantly reduce the time Repsol’s production engineers spend monitoring, controlling and maintaining individual wells. As this co-developed functionality progresses, additional AI-enabled features within the Leucipa Lift Optimizer will be made available to Baker Hughes customers in the future. The companies are also preparing to launch new functionality for emissions forecasting and management, as well as flow assurance management through Leucipa Production Management.

The Leucipa automated field production solution assists oil and gas operators in proactively managing production and reducing carbon emissions. By focusing on specific outcomes, Leucipa utilizes artificial intelligence and machine learning to drive smarter operations. By automating production, Leucipa maximizes efficiencies, ensures environmentally sound operations, and assists customers in recovering the millions of barrels that may otherwise remain untapped. Built on a 100-year legacy of energy innovation, Leucipa is a part of Baker Hughes’ end-to-end portfolio of proven digital technologies helping customers extend asset life and maximize returns. Learn more about the company’s end-to-end digital portfolio here.
