  • Second BHGE facility of its kind in the United States, offering unparalleled industrial inspection capabilities for electronics, automotive and medical device industries
  • Will feature BHGE’s portfolio of non-destructive 2D and 3D testing and industrial imaging solutions to help increase quality and productivity for customers

SAN JOSE, Calif. — June 05, 2019— Baker Hughes, a GE company (NYSE: BHGE), today announced plans to open a new Customer Solutions Center (CSC) in Silicon Valley for its Inspection Technologies (IT) business. The BHGE Silicon Valley CSC, located in San Jose, Calif., will bring BHGE’s most advanced non-destructive testing technologies under one roof and is the second facility of its kind in the United States after its first center opened last year in Cincinnati. The BHGE Silicon Valley CSC will provide customers a world-class space for X-ray and Computed Tomography (CT) machine demonstrations, application development, industrial inspection services and training.

The BHGE Silicon Valley CSC’s primary focus will be to service the nondestructive testing needs of the electronics, medical device, and other industries, such as the automotive industry that relies on critical additive manufacturing applications. These industries require a new level of high-resolution imaging for inspection technologies, a key benefit of the CSC’s radiography and imaging systems. Specifically, the CSC will focus on supporting industrial X-ray, CT and 3D metrology needs for semiconductor chips, high-end electronics, electric vehicle battery modules, printed circuit board assemblies, auto hydraulics, castings and medical implants, among others.

“San Jose is a strategic location to support our West Coast customers increasingly in need of the best available technologies and expertise to ensure the safety and integrity of their products,” said Nicola Jannis, CEO of Inspection Technologies for BHGE. “Our vision of establishing local industrial imaging centers in key regional hubs globally will allow us to offer the highest level of inspection and metrology services closer to our customers’ operations.”

BHGE’s CSCs provide leading technologies for customers who require asset and process performance improvements, quality assurance, research and development, parts metrology, and validation and repairs. The Silicon Valley CSC will house BHGE’s most advanced X-Ray and CT systems today, as well as a state-of-the-art climate-controlled room for computed tomography metrology and dedicated spaces for industrial inspection services and training.

All BHGE's CSCs – including Silicon Valley – are designed to provide a heightened customer experience in three specific areas:

  • World-class industrial inspection services at the scale of a production facility
  • Application development with personalized qualification setups and testing
  • Customer demos and industry-leading CT expert operator and analyst training

The 20,000 square foot Silicon Valley CSC will open in late summer 2019 and is developed specifically to support customers in the region for their non-destructive testing needs. Non-destructive testing allows a manufacturer to evaluate potentially hazardous properties of a component – such as inspecting batteries for safety issues including foreign body materials  - without damaging the component itself, saving time and money in the process. The CSC’s facility’s proximity to significant electronics manufacturing facilities in Silicon Valley, as well as less than four miles from San Jose International Airport, make the location ideal for regional customers.

BHGE also plans to open additional CSCs this summer in China and Korea. As previously announced, a new CSC in Germany is planned to open in future years for European customers. Each CSC will offer similar technologies and services, providing more attentive service to regional customers than has been seen in the industry at such scale before.
