Unleashing Change & Innovation: Survival Of The Fittest

Annual Meeting 2019

Mr. Hersvik says the industry has come a long way, but that there is still a long way to go, and that business practices and productivity have to change.

Unleashing Change & Innovation: Survival Of The Fittest

Mr. Hersvik feels we’re at a critical juncture where we must start applying digitization with radical impact on productivity, profitability, and value.

He shared the example of a digitally designed offshore platform that is generating virtually real-time data that is shared in a common platform to all players. He called this “data liberation.”

He emphasized that technical implementation must be practical. For example, simply taking a picture of a tag on a valve provides a worker with all the documentation relating to that valve, delivered directly to his or her tablet, with virtually no lag time. This capability took just four months to implement.

Work processes have to change, from traditional approaches that include long descriptions of everything needed to a more agile approach in which the operator specifies the minimum viable product with a direct link with the customer. This can only happen if data is available and we start sharing it.

It’s time to stop talking and start acting. And not one company can do it alone. We can only succeed by sharing data, sharing knowledge.
