Immersion probes are the ideal choice for scanning parts with irregular geometries. Because they’re the best method for consistent coupling and achieving reliable, reproducible results, they’re most often used in mechanized or automated testing using water. Large parts can be tested using probe holders, bubblers, or water jets and can be focused to improve results.

Phased array ultrasonic testing that meets your needs
As the world leader in NDT, we believe a name is only as meaningful as the results it delivers.
Waygate Technologies delivers comprehensive phased array NDT solutions for every inspection challenge. Our diverse probe range supports both standard and specialized testing needs across industries.
From material assessment and weld integrity to corrosion monitoring and composite analysis, our advanced portfolio includes capabilities for immersion testing, thin plate examination, and bolt inspection. We provide the precise technology you need, backed by our commitment to innovation.
Acoustically optimized for water scan tests, our waterproofed immersion probes can be geometrically focused to a point (spherical) or to a line (cylindrical) for the highest quality resolution, sensitivity and signal-to-noise ratio. They’re ideal for critical applications where very high near surface resolution and sensitivity to small discontinuities like cracks, cavities, and pores is crucial.
For European Customers: These models have a fixed cable with LEMO-1 connector.
For North American Customers: These models have waterproof UHF connector, except IPS type, which has non-waterproof M dot.
Waygate Technologies immersion probes are specifically designed for use in water-based ultrasonic inspections, such as immersion tanks and automated scanning systems. They feature waterproof construction and are acoustically optimized for reliable performance in submerged inspection environments.
Because sealing design, cable configuration, and probe style can vary, operating conditions depend on the specific model and application setup. For detailed guidance on your particular probe and inspection environment, we recommend contacting our technical team for model-specific support.
An immersion probe is an ultrasonic transducer designed to operate while fully submerged in a liquid—typically water—during ultrasonic testing (UT). Instead of being placed directly in contact with the test surface like a contact probe, an immersion probe transmits and receives ultrasonic waves through a water column, which acts as a consistent couplant.
Immersion probes are commonly used in automated or tank-based inspections where precise beam control, scanning accuracy, and repeatability are required. They are ideal for applications such as thickness measurement, flaw detection, and high-resolution inspections of complex or delicate components.
An immersion probe is used in ultrasonic testing (UT) applications where inspections are performed in a water tank or with a controlled water column between the probe and the test piece. The water acts as a consistent couplant, allowing ultrasonic waves to travel efficiently into the material without direct contact.
Immersion probes are commonly used for high-precision thickness measurement, flaw detection, bond testing, and automated scanning of components. They are especially valuable when inspecting complex geometries, delicate surfaces, or parts that require repeatable, high-resolution results in production or laboratory environments.
