Meet Omar
From working student to Software Engineer, Omar’s journey at Waygate Technologies reflects the company’s commitment to empowering its people and driving innovation. When Omar first came across a job posting for Waygate Technologies on LinkedIn, he was intrigued by the opportunity to blend his passion for Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning with the world of CT systems. In 2023, while pursuing his master’s degree, Omar joined Waygate Technologies in Munich, Germany, as a working student. Little did he know, this would be the start of a transformative journey that would shape his career.
Joining Waygate Technologies
Omar was immediately impressed by what he found at Waygate Technologies:
“The site in Munich provides direct access to many CT systems and machines, offering invaluable hands-on experience. The team is welcoming, enthusiastic, and professional,” he recalls.
With a supportive culture fostering collaboration, software engineers and application engineers work closely to design creative solutions grounded in solid domain knowledge. This environment made Omar’s transition from a working student to a master thesis intern, and later to a full-time Software Engineer, seamless and rewarding.
Innovating with AI and CT Applications
During his time at Waygate Technologies, Omar has been at the forefront of projects that merge AI with CT systems.
- CT Scan Denoising
His first project focused on using AI to enhance CT scans, reducing noise and improving image reliability for inspection services while cutting scan times. This groundbreaking work was recognized at the 13th Conference on Industrial Computed Tomography (ICT) and has already garnered citations.
- Sharper CT Images through AI Solutions
Working with the TUM School of Engineering and Design, Omar helped develop AI-based solutions to sharpen CT images, resulting in clearer visuals for inspection and metrology applications.
- Reducing Metal Artifacts in CT Images
For his master’s thesis, Omar explored how AI-powered CT reconstruction could tackle one of the biggest challenges in industrial CT—metal artifacts. By incorporating AI into reconstruction processes, his work significantly reduced these artifacts, providing sharper and more accurate images.
“Waygate Technologies taught me the value of constant research, agile development, and interdisciplinary cooperation,” Omar says. “These lessons have shaped my approach to solving complex problems and will benefit me for the rest of my career,'' he adds.
A Typical Day at Waygate Technologies
Omar’s day begins in an office surrounded by cutting-edge CT systems and machines.
Morning: He starts by developing software programs and deploying them to CT machines for testing and feedback.
Lunch Break: Omar enjoys lunch with colleagues, sharing ideas and insights.
Afternoon: His afternoons are spent conducting experiments, training AI models, and collaborating with his team to refine their priorities and goals.
“Every day is exciting, whether it’s testing new AI architectures or drawing insights from experimental results,” he adds.
A Culture of Support and Innovation
Waygate Technologies has provided Omar with a positive and supportive environment where he has grown both professionally and personally.
“I had no prior experience with CT systems before joining, but thanks to my manager Andreas Fischer and hands-on applications, I was able to learn quickly and make meaningful contributions,” Omar explains.

A Personal Touch
Omar’s passion for AI and its applications drives his work. One of his favorite aspects of his role is collaborating with application engineers and seeing customer demos.
“It’s incredibly fulfilling to see the software we develop being used,” he shares.
Outside of work, Omar balances his life by running, training at the gym, and reading novels or philosophy books. These hobbies help him recharge and stay motivated for the challenges ahead.
